Zempt configuration

# 6 05 2006 - 16:21 #

You can use Zempt to post to your XML-RPC enabled Textpattern blog – despite of the age of the software itself, since the XML-RPC API didn’t changes in many time.

These are the required steps to follow in order to proper setup the client:

  1. Open the program and on the main screen1 go to Tools > Preferences2. The new account screen3 will be opened for you.
  2. Once there, type the name you want to assign to this textpattern install – just a way to remember where are you posting to – and fill the required data with your Textpattern user account info. It is to say, your user name and password4.
  3. Then, click on the checkbox labeled “I know my XML-RPC URL” and type the path to the /rpc/ directory in your server. Usually, it will be the path to your site followed by /rpc/
  4. With all these steps completed5, click on the Apply button at the bottom of the screen and you’ll see that Zempt will try to retrieve all the required information from your Textpattern install6.
  5. At this point you should be able to select your site blogs from the list displayed on the main interface7. Note that, since the XML-RPC specs says nothing about site sections, every one of your Textpattern sections will mean a different blog for Zempt. Select the section where you want to post to before to start writting your articles.
  6. Wait!, before to post there are several configuration options you can setup. Go again to Tools > Preferences [2] and select the Posting Options from the menu on the left side. You’ll see some default options you can use when posting8. These are the ones I’ve selected9 since I love Textile too much to forget it.
  7. Posting to your weblog: Just fill in the fields10 and click on the Publish Edited Entry. If everything goes well, you’ll see the progress bars and, at the end, a clean screen to write again.
  8. Edit existing articles: Click on the Edit an Entry button and you’ll see a screen where you can select any of the published articles11 in order to edit it – click on the OK button at the bottom – or delete it, just selecting the article and doing click on the Delete button and answering yes to the confirmation dialog12 which will be opened then.

Known issues

It seems that Zempt don’t understand utf-8 properly and some characters will look garbled13 when you’re editing an existing article. Not sure, but seems that the development has been discontinued. Anyway, we’re trying to find when Zempt is the client being used and return iso-8859-1 encoded strings instead of the textpattern native utf-8 ones.
